The Allure of Alpaca

For fly tyers seeking a touch of luxury and high performance in their flies, Vicuna Dubbing offers a truly compelling choice. While its name may evoke the rare and endangered Vicuña, this dubbing is actually made from alpaca wool—an equally exquisite yet sustainable alternative. The clever homage in its name reflects the exceptional quality of the material, setting it apart as a premium option for fly tying enthusiasts.

The Magic of Alpaca Wool

Alpaca fibers possess a unique set of qualities that make them ideal for fly tying. The fibers are naturally hollow, a feature that imparts a degree of buoyancy to your flies. This quality is particularly advantageous for creating versatile patterns. Through expert processing, Vicuna Dubbing enhances these natural properties, ensuring that wet flies sink effectively while still casting with minimal water resistance.

A Kaleidoscope of Colours

Vicuna Dubbing’s dedication to quality doesn’t stop at material selection. Their dyes create a vibrant and diverse palette, featuring over sixty single colours and unique blends. This variety empowers fly tyers to craft realistic and visually striking patterns for a wide range of fishing scenarios. Whether you’re matching the hatch or creating something truly unique, Vicuna Dubbing has you covered.

Key Benefits of Vicuna Dubbing

Natural Materials: Alpaca wool offers a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative, making it an excellent choice for environmentally conscious tyers.

Superior Performance: The combination of natural buoyancy and water absorption allows for versatile designs that perform beautifully in the water.

Exceptional Handling: Designed for ease of use, this dubbing adheres effortlessly to unwaxed threads, ensuring smooth and flawless body construction.

Unmatched Variety: With an expansive array of colours and blends, Vicuna Dubbing caters to fly patterns for every situation and preference.

Some of Our Favourite Blends

One standout blend is Chadwick’s Sub, as it is the closest replication to the original Chadwick’s wool we’ve seen in dubbing. This versatile material can be dubbed on to create super neat and tight bodies or brushed out for scraggy, scruffy bodies, offering a wide range of creative possibilities for fly tyers.

Another favourite is the Black Peacock. Subtly blended with flash fibres, this dubbing creates an iridescent peacock effect that lends itself beautifully to beetle patterns and other flies requiring a touch of shimmer and depth.
